Tipster gives information on stolen steer

MIDDLEBURG — A day after posting a $500 reward for information about a stolen steer, the owners of N.S. Troutman and Sons said Wednesday they have received a tip and turned it over to state police.

Business co-owner Isaac Hassinger said the 1,200-pound red Limousin beef cow was removed from a locked barn sometime between 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 and 5 a.m. Nov. 6.

A second cow being held in the same locked pen was found in a fenced pasture about one-half mile away hours later.

After a week had passed and the steer remained on the loose, Hassinger said he was convinced it was stolen and offered $500 for information that leads to the steer or a conviction.

One tipster called the company with information and that was turned over to state police at Selinsgrove.

Anyone with information about the missing steer may call the Hassingers at 570-374-4949.
