NORTHUMBERLAND — Geisinger Community Health Services and SUN Home Health and Hospice announced today the signing of a comprehensive integration agreement by which SUN Home Health & Hospice will become part of the Geisinger health system.
The agreement will allow the organizations to work more closely together to benefit patients in need of home healthcare, hospice and other supportive medical services, a Geisinger spokesman said.
The integration agreement is subject to regulatory approval, and Geisinger and SUN Home Health are hoping for a July 1 effective date.
“SUN Home Health & Hospice enables patients to stay at home with their families while recovering from surgery, dealing with a chronic illness or facing the challenges associated with aging,” said Geisinger Health System Vice President for Population Health Denise B. Prince. “We are excited about expanding our programs by integrating with another like-minded, quality not for profit organization focused on doing what is best for patients.”
Steven Richard, president and chief executive officer of SUN Home Health said, “Healthcare continues to evolve throughout the United States, including here in central Pennsylvania. We are fortunate to have Geisinger, a nationally-recognized healthcare organization, here in our home community, and we look forward to looking at ways we can work with Geisinger Community Health Services to enhance care well into the future.”
