18-year-old Mount Carmel girl killed in Snydertown Road crash

SNYDERTOWN - A 2013 graduate of the Mount Carmel Area High School was killed early today when her car veered off the Snydertown Road in Upper Augusta Township and overturned.

The victim, Marcelle R. Barber 18, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the 12:45 a.m. crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, state police at Stonington report.

Three passengers were injured. Tyler J. Karycki, 21, of Mount Carmel and Brianna L. Bailey, 18, of Kulpmont were taken to Geisinger Medical Center by ambulance and Hasan M. Abuomar, 19, of Mount Carmel, was taken to Sunbury Community Hospital. Their medical conditions were not available this morning.

State police at Stonington said Barber was driving east on Snydertown Road about two miles east of Sunbury when her 2001 Pontiac Sunfire left the road. The vehicle then skidded back across both lanes of the road before it overturned.

Emergency units from Upper Augusta Township and Sunbury assisted state police at the scene.
