State Pardons Board to take up 88-year-old’s request

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania’s Pardons Board is taking up the case of an 88-year-old woman who’s been jailed for nearly half her life for masterminding the killing of a doctor in 1971.

The board today will consider the request of Lois Farquharson, a former psychiatrist serving time for the death of Dr. Leon Weingrad.

The board will have to support her commutation request unanimously to send to Gov. Tom Corbett.

Farquharson’s then-lover Gloria Burnett, who shot and killed Weingrad, served 20 years and then was released.

The prosecutor who handled the case says Farquharson has never admitted guilt.

A friend of Farquharson says she’s had health problems.
