FREEBURG — A storage shed was destroyed when sparks from outdoor burning ignited the structure at 10:15 p.m. Monday at 115 Red Bank Road, off Route 35 in Washington Township, Snyder County.
Freeburg Fire Chief Bill Newman said the property is owned by Sam Boyer. Newman estimated the loss at $1,500 to $2,000.
The shed was near a barn, which firefighters hosed down to protect it from the heat and flames.
Newman said someone was burning weeds and thought the fire was out, but embers reached the shed. The contents were unknown.
About 20 firefighters were at the scene from six companies. Assisting Freeburg were Mount Pleasant Mills, Shamokin Dam, Richfield, Middleburg and Selinsgrove.
