Storms leave 800 PPL customers in the dark

SUNBURY — The thunderstorms that rolled through the Valley on Thursday knocked out power to more than 800 customers, according to PPL.

Hardest hit was White Deer Township in Union County, where 714 dwellings were in the dark at 10:30 p.m. There were 139 customers without power in Snyder County, including 74 in Perry Township.

Montour and Northumberland County escaped the worst of the storms. Montour did not have any outages at 10:30, while Nothumberland County had six.

Others weren’t so lucky. In Lycoming County, for example, more than 1,700 customers were without power. Joe Nixon, a spokesman for PPL Electric Utilities, said the utility’s crews would be working into the day to fix problems. In all, PPL had problems in about 200 locations affecting more than 10,000 customers, he said.
