Milton shooting victim still listed in critical condition

— SHAMOKIN — More than a week after 20-year-old Salicia Yost was found shot in the head near Shamokin, she remains in critical condition in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Police said the investigation into her shooting continues, as a hearing nears for two men officers are not calling suspects just yet.

Yost, of Milton, was taken to the Danville hospital following a one-car crash at 5:30 a.m. Feb. 8. The 2013 Chevrolet Sonic with Ohio plates in which Yost was traveling crashed on Irish Valley Road near Route 61, about four miles north of Shamokin.

Police said Yost was going east toward Route 61 when she apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a snow mound. Yost was shot in the left side of her head, according to court documents. A cellphone found in the car with Yost indicated several text messages and calls had been made between Yost and Rafael Anthony Diroche Jr., 28, of Mount Carmel, according to court documents. Text messages, sent minutes before the shooting, talked about meeting on Irish Valley Road, police said.

Diroche and another man held on weapons charges, Esteven Rafael Soto, 30, of the Bronx, New York City, have preliminary hearing scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday before District Judge Hugh Jones, Mount Carmel.
