Bloomberg: NYC at mercy of weak gun laws

— NEW YORK — Officials say more guns from out of state are being used to commit crimes in New York City.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says that in 2011, 90 percent of the 2,433 traceable guns used in city crimes were from outside New York state.

The year before, 86 percent of the 2,319 guns came from out of state.

Bloomberg said Wednesday that even though New York has strict gun laws, the city is at the mercy of weak national and state laws.

He says it’s too easy to carry a gun from one state to another.

He says most of the guns come from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Pennsylvania.

Bloomberg is an outspoken advocate for gun control and says he will keep fighting to get laws changed.
