SELINSGROVE — A Northampton contractor is accused of bilking the VFW Post 6631 out of $7,000 for failing to properly resurface the organization’s parking lot.
Mark M. Harrison, 29, of 33 Country Club Road N., Northampton, began the work placing a seal coat on the VFW parking lot at 940 Route 522 in Penn Township on Sept. 17, 2012, but after receiving the full $7,000 payment, left the site without completing the job, state police at Selinsgrove said.
VFW representative Harold Auker said they had to hire another contractor to finish the work for an additional $1,625. He also accused Harrison of using an inferior product that did not prevent cracking.
Harrison, who has a prior criminal history for theft by unlawful taking, was arraigned before District Judge John H. Reed on third-degree felony deceptive or fraudulent business practices and theft by deception. He was released in lieu of $10,000 unsecured bail pending an Oct. 16 preliminary hearing.
