Trucking deal could save 64 jobs in Milton area

MILTON — A Northumberland County trucking company filed notice with the state that its Milton location could shutter by January, but company officials say they are confident a deal with Ryder will save most if not all of those jobs.

A WARN notice filing states that Con-Agra Foods is canceling its business contract with Milton Logistics, and as a consequence, Ryder Logistics will take over all Milton facility operations for the logistics company.

Milton Logistics is owned by C&S Wholesale Groceries, based in New Hampshire.

It is expected that Ryder will “employ virtually all current Milton facility employees,” according to the filing.

Sixty-four people work for the company, said Gerry Runyan, general manager of Milton Logistics.

“And it will be 64 when Ryder comes in,” assuming all employees meet the qualifications for employment with Ryder, Runyan said.
