Intoxicated university freshman sleeps it off in Lewisburg area home

LEWISBURG -  A blacked-out 18-year-old Bucknell University student woke up Sunday morning to a strange house, state police officers and a home-owner with a loaded shotgun.

Theodore Bartlett Doremus, 18, of Jericho Center, Vt., told state police at Milton he was a first-semester freshman and did not remember leaving a house party he was at earlier in the morning or how he came to pass out on the couch of homeowner Timothy Witter.

He was also without shoes and socks and did not know where he had lost them.

Witter discovered Doremus asleep on his sofa at 8 a.m., at which point he called state police.

Witter told police that a vacuum cleaner left on the back porch had been used to break the back door window and gain entry to his house, located on 45 Old Route 45 in West Chillisquaque Township, a residential area located across the river from Lewisburg.

Troopers arrived at the scene to find Witter standing with a loaded shotgun over the unconscious Doremus.

Troopers reported that Doremus was in an obvious state of intoxication and was later released to Bucknell University officials.

Charges of criminal trespass, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, underage drinking, public intoxication and loitering and prowling at night are pending.
