Sunbury man snatches $20 from woman's hand

— SUNBURY — A Sunbury man has been charged with robbery after police said he ran past a woman on the street and grabbed $20 from her hand.

Christopher Tallon, 21, was charged by Sunbury police after the victim said she was walking in the 300 block of Walnut Street, headed to purchase food and a pack of cigarettes on Saturday, when a man behind her “snatched” the $20 and ducked between two buildings, court documents said.

The woman said she noticed the man because he had red hair and was pushing a baby stroller, police said.

A woman who was driving by told police she saw a red-haired man pushing a baby buggy come up behind the victim, grab the cash and flee between the two homes. The witness saw where the man went, followed him to the door of 330 Walnut St. and knocked on the door, police said.

The person who answered the door was holding a child, and the woman asked the person to return the money, court documents said.

The person inside the home said the cash would not be returned and began to laugh, court documents said.

The person told the witness, “Sorry about your luck,” police said.

Police arrived at the dwelling and spoke to a women who said she rents a room in the home to Tallon, who is her nephew, police said.

The woman told police she was at work when she received a call from her landlord about the incident, court documents said. When the woman returned home, she found several individuals inside the home who began to flee out the back door, police said.

Officers asked the woman who in the home had red hair, and the woman said it was Tallon, court documents said.

Tallon was later identified by the victim, police said.

Tallon was charged with felony robbery and misdemeanor charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. He was arraigned by District Judge Ben Apfelbaum on Wednesday and placed in the Northumberland County Prison on $50,000 bail.
