150 people come out to see Henry Hynoski

SELINSGROVE -  New York Giants fullback Henry Hynoski return to the Valley on Sunday, signing autographs for about 150 people who came out to meet with the star athlete.

New York Giants player Hakeem Nicks was also signing autographs at Amato’s in Selinsgrove.

Hynoski said it’s always a pleasure to come home and see fans who have followed his career since he played at Southern Columbia Area High School. “It feels great,” he said. “It’s amazing to see.”

Many of those in attendance said they are Giants fans who are proud to see Hynoski play for their favorite team.

“I’ve been a Giants fan forever,” said Pam Hubler, of Lavelle, Schuylkill County. “To have Henry play for the Giants is awesome.”

Tiffany Musser, of Sunbury, said she is a Giants fan who was happy to see a hometown player make the team.

“It’s awesome,” she said. “He’s one of my favorite players.”

Hynoski said he was not surprised by how many Giants fans reside in the Valley.

“The Giants have a huge following,” he said. “We play all over the country and easily half the stadium will be Giants fans.”

Hubler said she was impressed with how down-to-earth Hynoski was.

“He’s so nice,” she said.

Erica Amato, whose husband, Marcello, owns the restaurant, agreed.

“He’s so down-to-earth and personable,” she said. “We’ve been to a lot of these, and they’re not always so welcoming.”

Amato estimated that about 150 people came out to see Hynoski.

Among them was Southern Columbia head football coach Jim Roth, who stopped to say hello to his former player. Roth wasn’t taking any of the credit for Hynoski’s professional success, citing Hynoski’s commitment and drive.

“I’m just really happy for Henry,” he said. “I’ve never coached someone as deserving as Henry.”

At Southern Columbia Area High School, Hynoski is still a favorite football player, said Southern senior Jeff Hall, who came with his family to meet Hynoski.

“People still get his jersey,” he said.

Hynoski said he is using his off-season to prepare for training camp on April 15.

“I want to go back in shape and ready,” he said.

“I want to win another Super Bowl,” he added. “I want to be bigger, faster, stronger.”
