SUNBURY — SUNBURY - Strong winds today may have played a role, but the rotted condition of the base of a wooden street light on Woodlawn Avenue didn’t help.
Around 3 p.m., a witness said he heard a loud crack and then the pole came down, bouncing off a Camry and landing across the hood of a Grand Cherokee.
Shortly after, Melissa Wagner, with Focus Health of Sunbury, arrived with a friend, upset when she saw what had happened. “It’s my fiance’s car,” she said, looking at the Camry and holding her hand over her mouth in astonishment. “I don’t know what he’s going to do.” She had parked the car there in the morning.
They contacted Glenda Kashner, also with Focus Health, who owns the Grand Cherokee and who quickly came out to see the damage. “Too bad it didn’t take out the headlights,” she said, while they waited for city police to arrive.
