Police: Assault victim struck back with nebulizer

DANVILLE — A borough man was charged with assault for punching another man who fought back with a breathing treatment machine, police said.

According to officers, Kevin Guffey, 43, of 14 Spruce St., punched Randy Broadt on Aug. 27 at the Spruce Street address. Broadt had previously suffered a stroke.

Broadt told police he retaliated by hitting Guffey with a nebulizer.

Patrolman Gerald Zeidler Jr. charged Guffey with simple assault and harassment.

Police said Broadt’s left eye was bruised and swollen to the extent he was unable to open his eyelid.

Guffey told police Broadt fell down and hit his head on a piece of furniture. Broadt shook his head and said Guffey hit him, according to the charges.

Police said Broadt also had abrasions on both arms and his right elbow. An ambulance was called, and Broadt was taken to Geisinger Medical Center.
