Carlisle woman, 22, seriously injured in Route 15 crash

LEWISBURG - A woman from Carlisle was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when she was thrown through a sunroof as her vehicle overturned several times along Route 15 near Lewisburg.

Rebekah E. Vanzandt, 22, was airlifted to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville by medical helicopter following the crash at 12:55 p.m. Saturday. She is reported in serious condition today, a hospital spokeswoman said.

State police at Milton said Vanzandt was driving in the left northbound lane of Route 15 in Kelly Township when another vehicle moved from the right lane into her vehicle’s path in the left lane.

Vanzandt steered her Toyota SC to the left to avoid the other vehicle, but she lost control. Her vehicle crossed the median before it overturned, rolling two or three times down over an embankment on the western berm, police said. At some point, Vanzandt, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected through the sunroof, landing about 15 feet from where her vehicle came to rest, police said.

The William Cameron Engine Company and ambulance of Lewisburg assisted state police at the scene.
