— LEWISBURG -- Breast cancer awareness and a tribute to the children who died in the Newtown, Conn., shooting are among dedications in this year’s Spring Choral Concert at Lewisburg Area High School, this Saturday, April 13 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

The concert, which benefits the Lewisburg Food Bank, “is about loving, family and friends,” said David Jennings, conductor for the show and a music instructor at the high school. “It should be awesome.”

Jennings said the Chamber Choir is singing " Sing for the Cure," a proclamation of hope, and “Come to me Mother" for breast cancer awareness, and “Sing me to Heaven”  dedicated to those children who died in Newtown.

The show will feature the Chamber Choir and Concert Choir, and patrons are asked to bring a food donation for the food bank. Among items in need are peanut butter, cereal, canned tuna, stews and soups, canned fruit and vegetables, spaghetti sauce, juice, sugar and flour.

The concert will be a celebration as well:  Lewisburg Area School District recently was named one of the best U.S. communities for music education in 2013 by the NAMM Foundation, a nonprofit group that supports music programs and participation. This is the third consecutive year that NAMM has honored the school district this way.
