— WASHINGTONVILLE — Fire forced a Washingtonville man to flee from his home and dress in his driveway as firefighters from six companies fought the blaze in bitter cold and high wind.

Jeff Reichenbach, 27, was uninjured but officials advised him to seek medical treatment after the blaze that destroyed his home, a doublewide trailer at 268 Bleehill Road in Derry Township.

Montour County Dispatch got the call about 6:30 p.m. for a fully working structure fire. A panicked neighbor had called, worried that the high winds would blow burning embers to her property.

Reichenbach, a truck driver, said he went to bed about 6 p.m. Sunday, needing to get up about 3 a.m. Monday for work when he awoke to smoke in his bedroom. He doesn't know how the fire started, he said.

First responders came from Washingtonville, Millville, Liberty Township, Valley Township, East End Fire Dept. and the Danville Fire Dept., as well as the Danville Ambulance.

A stiff, strong wind made an already bitter cold night even colder as smoke billowed and swirled up from what was left of Reichenbach’s home.

Firefighters in masks and breathing gear were pulling apart the home’s wreckage to look for hot spots, working by Klieg lights. Response was finished just after 9 p.m., Montour dispatch said.

Reichenbach, meanwhile, was safe and surrounded by family, his Pittsburgh Steelers fleece on inside out, indicative of how fast he needed to get out of the place.
