2003 Danville graduate dies in boating accident

BALTIMORE —  A 2003 graduate of Danville High School died Sept. 3 after he fell overboard while boating on the Chesapeake Bay, north of Gibson Island, with family and friends.

The body of Jason W. Ryman, 27, of Philadelphia, was recovered Thursday. Funeral arrangements were announced Sunday.

Authorities told The Associated Press that Ryman was on a sailboat with three others when a squall caused the boat to tip over.

Ryman and his girlfriend, Hannah Kahn, 26, also of Philadelphia, were thrown from the boat. Kahn was rescued, but the crew was unable to reach Ryman.

Emergency responders searched the area for two days.

Ryman was a son of Vernon D. Ryman, and Victoria A. (DeWald) Ruk. He lived in Philadelphia for the past five years and previously lived in Bloomsburg and Danville.

He was a 2008 graduate of Bloomsburg University with a degree in business administration and human resources.
