Victim remains unidentified one month after fatal crash

— ELYSBURG — It could be six to eight weeks before the identity is known of a second man who died in a fiery Rush Township accident Aug. 26.

Northumberland County Coroner James Kelley said Friday the state police officer investigating the crash told him Tuesday the blood and deep tissue samples were listed as of Tuesday in the state police system.

Although Kelley was told it could be six to eight weeks, he said he hopes the samples can be processed sooner than that.

Kelley earlier identified James L. Connelly, 46, of Danville, as the second victim in the crash on Rushtown Road between Logan Run Road and Bellas Hollow Road.

Connelly’s identify was made through ante-mortem and post-mortem comparisons, descriptions of an upper dental plate and fragments of tattoos and specific jewelry items.

Kelley pronounced both victims dead at the scene. Both men had to be freed using the jaws of life. One victim was found under the pickup truck and the second victim was in the vehicle.

Skid marks showed the truck was traveling in the direction of Logan Run Road, went out of control, struck a tree off the right side of the road, flipped onto its roof, caught fire and was destroyed by flames. The truck slid some distance into the left lane.
