State treasurer rips governor's $3.4 million lottery consultant tab

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania’s state treasurer says Gov. Tom Corbett should abandon his efforts to hire a private manager to run the Pennsylvania Lottery now that he’s racked up a $3.4 million tab on consultants.

Treasurer Rob McCord urged Corbett on Monday to drop a bid by Camelot Global Services, the British company Corbett wants to hire. Corbett faces a Tuesday deadline to decide whether to extend the bid or not.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane rejected the contract as illegal in February, and Corbett hasn’t resubmitted a revised contract to Kane.

McCord opposes the contract and is also a potential Democratic opponent of Corbett’s in next year’s election. McCord says the money spent on consultants could have been spent on hundreds of thousands of meals or transit rides for seniors.
