SELINSGROVE — A PennDOT maintenance crew in Snyder County today opened the new bridge on Salem Road (Route 1011) in Jackson Township.
The detour that had been in place since early September is lifted.
The crew replaced the old bridge with a new concrete box culvert on the same alignment, and then rebuilt the roadway approaches and installed curbing.
Guiderail will be installed tentatively next Tuesday and Wednesday. That work phase will be done under daylight closures, with the bridge reopened at night. Then, any further remaining work will be done under lane restrictions.
The new bridge over Monongahela Creek two miles southwest of Kratzerville replaces one that was built in 1932 and was structurally deficient in recent years, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation said.
