Beer flows, drinkers gush

Festival celebrates spectrum of tastes

SELINSGROVE — “Not entirely usual,” was the slightly cryptic description Steve Fairbrother, of Pottstown, used to characterize the York Holo that impressed his taste buds.

The beer, which hails from Mansfield, piqued his interest enough that he researched it a bit on the Internet before coming to Selinsgrove on Saturday.

“Their goal is to use local produce. They hope soon to get locally grown barley from within 10 miles of their farm,” he said.

The York Holo had a very distinct flavor, he said, “with the bitterness of hops but not the bite.’”

Fairbrother also enjoyed the same brewery’s Belgian blond ale with coriander and lemongrass.

In keeping with the brewery’s drive toward local ingredients, he said, the lemongrass was grown on the farm where the beer is produced.
