Free concerts this summer

DANVILLE — DANVILLE – The free summer concert series will again be held in Danville and in the area.

Sponsors for the events hosted by the Montour Area Recreation Commission are Danville American Legion Post 40, Martin Rogers Engineering Consultants, Gregory and Paula Benkovic and Dr. and Mrs. William Snover. Commission director Bob Stoudt  commended the Rev. Robert Andrews and Grove Presbyterian Church for use of the church during inclement weather. The church is across from Memorial Park on Bloom Street.

Concert-goers should bring a chair or a blanket. They can also take along picnic suppers to enjoy while listening to the music.

The Danville Community Band will kick off the series at 7 p.m. June 18 in Memorial Park with selections from Sousa, the Big Band Era to classic movie tunes.

The Clickard Consortium “Little Big Band” will play at 7 p.m. June 25 in Memorial Park. The present jazz standards to the swing era.

Zing Productions will perform at 7 p.m. July 2 in Memorial Park.

Rusty Foulke, of Hybrid Ice fame and solo artist, will entertain at 7 p.m. July 9 in Memorial Park.

Entertainment for July 16 will be announced.

Van Wagner, Danville native who makes music, teaches kids, has mined coal and logged trees, will perform at 7 p.m. July 23 in the DeLong Memorial Hall in Washingtonville.

Woody Wolfe will present a children’s concert at 11 a.m. July 30 at the Riverside Borough Playground. Wolfe, who visits children in the U.S. and in other countries, will present classics and original kids’ songs.
