ELYSBURG — Do you have StratosFear?
You do now: The latest addition to Knoebels Amusement Resort is a 148-foot tall tower that takes a dozen people to the top and .... aaauuuggghhh! All the way to the ground.
The park opens April 27, and the StratosFear, which arrived Sunday in three pieces on a 50-foot-long truck, already is standing proud. Workers finished assembly Monday afternoon.
This thrill ride — now the tallest feature in the Elysburg area park, twice as tall as the Phoenix roller coaster and beating the 110-foot tall Giant Wheel — fit the bill for what Knoebels wanted to add for this season, said Joe Muscato, director of public relations.
“It has a small footprint, and it’s a nice thrill,” he said of the ride, made by ARM Rides, of Wintersville, Ohio.
While up and standing, the StratosFear is not quite ready for prime time. All the wiring, bolt tightening, seat mounting and safety testing remains to be done, Muscato said, but the new ride is ahead of schedule, and officials are sure it will be operating on opening day.
Riders must be at least four-foot tall to ride the StratosFear, which will become a showpiece of Knoebels, Muscato said. Aside from being the tallest ride there, “It has a nice light package, it’s very attractive and pleasing to look at,” he said. Souvenirs such as T-shirts featuring the ride will be available.
