Red Cross Heroes Breakfast slated for March, 2014

Nominations are open to all

LEWISBURG — The SUN Area Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its eighth annual Heroes Breakfast at Country Cupboard Restaurant in Lewisburg on March 21 at 7:30 a.m.  Following a brief introduction and video presentation, this year’s SUN Area Heroes will receive their awards.

The Heroes awards honor people from all walks of life who have made significant contributions in service to their communities.

Companies, organizations and individuals are invited to nominate a hero. Nomination forms can be acquired by calling the office at (570) 524-0400,  ext. 1602.

Heroes are selected from the following categories: Community Impact, Law Enforcement, Military, Fire/Safety, Pet Hero, Good Samaritan, and Youth Good Samaritan. A special award goes annually to the Dr. Charles P. Fasano, D.O., Memorial Award for medical heroism.

The concept for the Heroes Breakfast grew from a desire to develop an event that is closely related to the mission of the American Red Cross: teaching people to save lives.  “Heroes are those folks we encounter every day, going about the business of serving their communities in so many ways,” said chapter executive Tom Szulanczyk. “We want to honor them publicly to say thanks and also to allow others to see and emulate their good works.” Nominations are open until Jan. 30, 2014.
