Three injured in Routes 11-15 crash Wednesday morning

SHAMOKIN DAM - A two-vehicle crash tied up traffic Wednesday morning on Routes 11-15 in Shamokin Dam and sent three people to the hospital.

The crash occurred at about 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of 11-15 and Baldwin Boulevard, according to Shamokin Dam police. A Ford Escape SUV, driven by Christa Komara, of Coal Township, was traveling from the Veterans Memorial Bridge to Baldwin when it was struck by a Buick Skylark, driven by William English, of Selinsgrove, traveling northbound on 11-15.

Investigators determined English ran the red light at the intersection before striking Komara's vehicle, police said.

Komara, a passenger in her vehicle, Thomas Strickland, of Shamokin, and English were all transported from the scene to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, police said. None of the injuries "appeared to be life-threatening," police said.

Komara was listed in fair condition Wednesday afternoon, according to a Geisinger spokesperson. Hospital officials did not have information on English and Strickland.

Traffic was detoured for about an hour around the scene until the vehicles were removed. PennDOT assisted with traffic flow, while numerous local agencies responded to the accident, including the Hummel Wharf and Shamokin Dam Fire Departments, Americus Hose Company, and DH&L Emergency Medical Service.
