An Elysburg man and his wife were injured Monday during a three-vehicle pileup just outside of the Wayside Inn on Route 61 at Bridge Street.
The couple, Charles Klemanski Jr., 72, and his wife, Evelyn, were taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after being removed from their Chevrolet Malibu, which collided with a Ford Escort, driven by April Slavinsky, of Shamokin.
Charles Klemanski Jr. was in fair condition Monday night, while his wife was listed as serious.
Slavinsky was driving south on Route 61 toward Shamokin at about 4:30 p.m., when her car crashed into the side of Malibu, rolling it onto its side. The Malibu and Escort then slid into a third vehicle, a GMC Sierra 4X4 pickup truck. Exactly how the accident happened was not immediately clear.
Slavinsky, whose age was not disclosed by Ralpho Township police officer Christopher Grow, was taken to Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital, where she was treated, then released.
The driver of the Sierra was not injured, Grow said.
Grow did not know what caused the accident.
Southbound traffic on Route 61 was reduced to one lane for about two miles north of the accident scene.
Assisting police were fire and rescue personnel from Ralpho Township and Shamokin.
