Most candidates for major state offices file papers today

HARRISBURG — Republican Gov. Tom Corbett and six Democrats seeking the nomination to challenge his re-election bid have filed petitions for Pennsylvania’s May 20 primary ballot.

Corbett filed his petitions Tuesday, the filing deadline. He also has picked up an opponent in the GOP primary — Bob Guzzardi, a conservative activist from Ardmore who says Corbett broke his no-tax-pledge and that Republican voters deserve a choice.

The only other declared Democratic candidate, Lebanon County Commission Jo Ellen Litz, had not filed by midafternoon Tuesday.

Also filing petitions were the 16 congressional incumbents running for re-election and more than a dozen candidates seeking to oust them or fill one of two open seats.

Any of the petitions could be subject to a challenge in Commonwealth Court. Challenges must be filed by March 18.
