— BALTIMORE — There was a silver lining in the clouds for Sara Lauver after rain postponed Friday night’s game between the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles.

The postponement pushed the team’s celebration of former manager Earl Weaver, who died in January at age 82, to Saturday, prior to a doubleheader resulting from Friday night’s washout.

That meant national anthem singer Lauver, 31, of Selinsgrove, would be on the field with Orioles greats prior to the game.

“Just before I sang, the Earl Weaver celebration took place,” Lauver said.

Standing nearby were Cal Ripken Jr., Rick Dempsey, Buck Showalter, Brooks Robinson and Eddie Murray.

Her performance went well, Lauver said.

“I was nervous as usual,” she said. “I did not have time to be nervous because I was in awe of who was getting up and speaking.”
