Stabbing victim knifed in head

SUNBURY — A 27-year-old city man was in fair condition Saturday after being stabbed by another man reportedly following an argument over a woman the night before.

Sunbury police were releasing very few details about the stabbing that occurred around 11:30 p.m. Friday night at 500 Arch St. in the city and Chief Steve Mazzeo did not respond to calls.

In a prepared statement, police said the victim was taken to Sunbury Area Community Hospital and then flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Sources, including a woman who visited the alleged victim at the hospital Saturday and spoke on the condition of anonymity, identified him as Daniel Feese, 27.

The woman said he had suffered three to four stab wounds to the head and stomach area, including a 13-inch gash on his left side.

She said Feese named his longtime friend, Troy Bennick, 27, of Sunbury, as his attacker. The woman said the two men were drinking with friends in an Arch Street apartment when they began arguing over a woman.

Feese “told me he just remembers fighting with (Bennick) and getting stabbed,” she said.

A Geisinger nursing supervisor said Feese was in fair condition Saturday night. Earlier in the day he was reported as being in critical condition.

Police said the alleged attacker was charged with aggravated assault and sent to Northumberland County Prison, but did not identify the individual.

A jail employee confirmed Bennick was in the jail Saturday, but did not know the charge against him.

In their statement, city police said several people were interviewed and they were assisted by officers from Northumberland, Point Township, Shamokin Dam and state police at Stonington. State police also provided forensic services.

No one answered the door Saturday afternoon at the home of the alleged assault.
