McAlisterville man to admit three bank robberies

— HARRISBURG — A McAlisterville man says he intends to plead guilty to robbing two banks in Juniata County and one in Snyder County.

A signed plea agreement was filed Monday in U.S. Middle District Court in which Richard Lockett, 38, admits robbing the First National Bank in Thompsontown on Oct. 22, Juniata Valley Bank in Port Royal on Oct. 27 and Swineford National Bank in Beaver Springs on Nov. 5.

Judge Yvette Kane has not set a date to accept the plea. Lockett is facing a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison and will have to make full restitution of $21,644. His decision to cooperate with authorities could affect his sentence.

State police originally charged Lockett but withdrew the charges following his federal indictment. The state police arrest affidavit states Lockett told them he robbed the banks to support a drug habit.

Lockett has been in jail since Nov. 16, when he was arrested as a probation violator.
