DANVILLE — A former registered nurse at Geisinger Medical Center who allegedly admitted to taking three Oxycodone tablets intended for patients will face Montour County Court action.
Nicole Breann Cosgrove, 23, of 381 Lower Mulberry St., waived her right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday before District Judge Marvin Shrawder.
After she was charged by Mahoning Township police, she enrolled in the Pennsylvania Nursing Assistance Program, county District Attorney Rebecca Warren said.
Warren said she will contact the program. Cosgrove will be considered for county drug court, she said.
This was Cosgrove’s first offense, and she cooperated with police, the DA said.
Cosgrove admitted to diverting narcotics starting in September through Nov. 9 by dispensing Oxycodone for patients who had orders for the drug on an as-needed basis but did not require the painkiller, police said.
She told township police her motive was to “self-treat-medicate herself for her own medical condition,” according to the charges.
She also made fraudulent entries in the medical records of patients under her care, police said.
Police and agent Duane Musser, of the state attorney general’s office, charged her with two counts of prohibited acts related to diverting the drug and theft by deception.
