SUNBURY — During a visit to the city on Friday, U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta called the state Department of Community and Economic Development seeking an extension on its demand that Northumberland County repay $215,000 by Thursday.
Barletta, R-10, of Hazleton, met with county commissioners about the federal funds they received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The state Department of Community and Economic Development, which administered the grant, has said Northumberland County could not provide satisfactory documentation on how the money was used.
Commissioners Vinny Clausi and Steve Bridy assert that DCED never provided firm guidelines on how the funds were to be distributed, something DCED denies. Bridy says DCED is trying to hold the county responsible for the department’s own lack of oversight.
