DANVILLE — A 30-inch natural gas line project, starting in Sullivan County, will cross through parts of Montour County.
Valley Township supervisors Vice Chairman Walt Rupert said he got a call recently from a township resident about the pipeline. Rupert then called the Montour County commissioners, who provided him with more information.
Rupert said he did further research and found that the pipeline will be in the area of Sugar Camp Road in the township, he reported during Wednesday night’s supervisors’ meeting.
Commonwealth Pipeline, which Rupert was told is state-owned, will install the line. It is expected to be placed 10 feet underground.
Township solicitor Robert Buehner Jr. was told the pipeline will be built in the Strawberry Ridge area near the PPL Montour Plant, will cross Steffens and Hillside roads in Derry Township, Sugar Camp Road, continue west in the Mausdale area, go over Bald Top and into Mahoning Township to the Susquehanna River. Eventually, it is expected to extend to the Philadelphia suburbs, he said.
