18-year-old woman arrested in Sunbury stabbing death

— SUNBURY — A suspect is now in custody in the stabbing death of 42-year-old Troy LaFerrara, the Port Trevorton man who was found dead Nov. 12 in a Sunbury alley.

Miranda Barbour, 18, of Selinsgrove, was arraigned late this afternoon before District Judge Benjamin Apfelbaum.

LaFerrara was found stabbed multiple times in the torso, the apparent cause of death.

According to arrest documents, LaFerrara and Barbour met during the evening on Nov. 11 after the two had connected on a website then contacted each other. Barbour said she occasionally meets men in exchange for money.

After meeting near the Susquehanna Valley Mall, the two drove to Sunbury where LaFerrara directed Barbour to park. Barbour told police that LaFerrara began to grope her and had one of his hands around her throat, according to arrest documents.

"Barbour then retrieved a knife from between the front seats with her left hand and started stabbing the victim," police wrote in court papers.

"She related the first two or three times she stabbed him there wasn't any reaction. She then started blacking out and didn't remember the rest of the time she was stabbing him."

Barbour told police she then drove around Sunbury with LaFerrara's body in the car and eventually stopped and dumped the body.

Police used cell phone data obtained from LaFerrara's phone to track down Barbour and conducted an interview with her Monday. At 3:30 a.m. today, she went to the state police station at Selinsgrove and asked to speak with investigators.

She has been charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, possession of instruments of crime and simple assault. Following the arraignment, she was committed to the Northumberland County jail without bail.
