SUNBURY — A number of boats will be headed to Sunbury on Saturday in order to “Wake the Lake.”
Sunbury Revitalization Inc., the Friends of Shikellamy State Park, the Sunbury Social Club and the city have formed a partnership to bring the first “Wake the Lake” celebration to Lake Augusta on Saturday.
“We couldn’t be more excited about the partnership,” SRI board member Tonya Ditty said. “Each of these groups has independently wanted to promote activities on the river with limited success. Collectively, however, we can finally promote one of our greatest local assets in a way that is deserving. Wake the Lake is just the beginning, with the season-opening Blessing of the Boats, crafts and food vendors and local live entertainment.”
The day will be jam-packed with entertainment, Ditty said.
“We have three of the area’s favorite bands performing: the Frank Wicher Band, the Blind Chitlen Kahunas and Jesse,” she said. “It will be a terrific event for all ages.”
All the action will take place at the Sunbury riverfront with the music being presented at the new 500-seat amphitheater.
The event will begin at noon with a boat parade and a blessing of the boats ceremony, SRI’s Elm Street Manager Jess Runkle said.
“This day will be for everyone, boaters and land-lovers alike,” Runkle said. “There will be food and craft vendors on site throughout the day as well as displays by local marine dealers and outfitters.”
“This event allows people to reconnect with the river,” SRI President Meghan Beck said. “It is a great way to utilize the riverfront and kick off the opening of the amphitheater.”
Seating is limited, and SRI is encouraging people to bring lawn chairs and blankets and stay all day.
