Korean women get probation in sex case

LEWISBURG — Two Korean women arrested in May for providing sex for money at a Lewisburg massage parlor pleaded guilty to promoting prostitution in Union County Court on Thursday and received probation.

Suji Kim, 64, of Flushing, N.Y., and Eun Soon Kohler, 53, of Palmerton, who was supported in court by her husband, each pleaded guilty to a third-degree misdemeanor after prosecutors agreed to dismiss felony charges.

The pair were arrested after offering sex in exchange for money to undercover state troopers who went to the Four Seasons Spa on Slivermoon Lane in Lewisburg.

A third defendant, Ae Kyo Song, 53, of Los Angeles, was determined to be an illegal immigrant and was deported after the arrest.

“My client is extremely upset, embarrassed and remorseful,” said Philadelphia attorney Mark Schaffer as Kim hung her head and wiped her eyes with a tissue.

He told the court the 24 days she spent in the Union County Jail after her arrest was “the worst experience of her life.”

Kohler’s attorney, Kenneth Young, of Philadelphia, asked the court to take into account the 16 days she spent in the county jail following the arrest, her family and lack of a criminal record.

District Attorney D. Peter Johnson did not object to the defense request for probation.

In addition to six months of probation, Kim and Kohler were fined $1,000 each and will have to pay court costs and fees.
