Cash 5 ticket sold in Paxinos worth $225,000

— PAXINOS — A Cash 5 ticket worth a whooping $225,000 was sold in Northumberland County, state Lottery officials said Monday.

The winning ticket was sold at Masser’s Farm Market, 6148 Route 61, Paxinos. It correctly matched all five balls in Sunday’s Cash 5 drawing to win a jackpot of $225,000, according to the Pennsylvania Lottery website. Lottery officials still are working to identify the lucky winner.

It’s the biggest win ever for a ticket sold at Masser’s, said Linda Moraski, a clerk at the store.

“I think $50,000 was our biggest before this,” she said.

State Lottery officials called the store and confirmed that the winning ticket had been sold there, but neither Lottery officials nor Masser’s knows who it is yet, Moraski said.

“We’ve been asking some of our regular customers, and they’re surprised,” she said.

Masser’s will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket, according to the Lottery. But the bigger bonus may come from more business as word about the win gets out, Moraski said.

“When you get a big winner, they do come,” she said.

This weekend’s hit is the first big win in the Valley since January, when a Northumberland County man won $325,000 on a Cash 5 ticket, according to Lottery spokeswoman Lauren Piccolo. In Montour County, a woman claimed a $100,000 scratch-off prize at the end of March.

The win was part of a big weekend for the Lottery: Friday’s Cash 5 drawing had two winners for more than $250,000, one in Lackawanna County and one in Philadelphia.

The Lottery encourages holders of winning tickets to sign the back of the tickets, call the Lottery at (717) 702-8146 and file a claim at any of Lottery’s seven area offices or at Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County.
