BEAVERTOWN — Davy Jones will be memorialized with a life-sized statue that will be unveiled in June in this rural Snyder County community where the former Monkee spent summers until his sudden death last year.
Mayor Cloyd Wagner said the statue — created by an Altoona sculptor who is asking for $6,000 to cover the bronzing costs — will be unveiled June 15 at the Farmer’s Carnival Grounds near Jones’ home during a daylong event that will include a bed race and parade.
“There’s an awful lot of buzz about it,” said Wagner, who is in contact with Jones’ four daughters and expects them to attend the unveiling.
Jones, lead singer of The Monkees, owned property in Beavertown, where he spent the last 22 years of his life enjoying his horses and planning to open a museum-community theater.
