Point Township police hot on trail of burglars

— NORTHUMBERLAND — Two suspects are on the loose after a midday home invasion in Point Township, according to police.

One burglar forced his way in through a window of a home on Ridge Road at about 11:40 a.m. Tuesday and came face-to-face with the homeowner, said Chief Josh VanKirk.

The robber and the homeowner fled the home simultaneously, with the robber heading toward a waiting car and the homeowner going to a safe location to call police, VanKirk said. The victim’s name was not released.

“(The homeowner) made a really safe decision to not engage and call police,” he said.

The homeowner described the burglar, who was wearing a ski mask, as a man of average build and about 5 feet 8 inches tall, VanKirk said.

The victim was not able to provide a description of the driver of the getaway vehicle, but said the vehicle was light to medium blue, either a station wagon or hatchback and probably made in the 2000s, VanKirk said.

The burglars were able to elude police and got away with jewelry, he said. An estimate of the jewelry’s worth was not available.

State police investigators processed the crime scene and recovered some evidence, he said.

There have been several incidents in the area recently, and VanKirk urged residents to keep their homes secured at all times.

“The message is to be vigilant, keep their homes locked, even while they are there during the day,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call township police at 473-9364.
