A Sunbury business is trying to help keep drunken drivers from getting behind the wheel so they decided to drive them around instead.
In a hayride.
“Why drink and drive when you can drink and hayride?” is the slogan the Sunbury Motor Company is using when it promotes its first anti-drunken driving campaign.
“This is a great idea and seems very popular,” said tractor driver Cory Fasold.
“I am thrilled to see so many people get involved.”
The wagon rides will begin at 7 p.m. today and run through midnight, Fasold said.
“This is good for the town and it appears this will be enjoyable for everyone,” he said.
“You don’t have to worry about driving and you can go out and have a great time.”
The hayride will run continuously to The Brass Key, The Hotel Edison, McGuigan’s Public House, The Top Hat and the Sunbury Elks Club.
“What’s neat about this is every bar will have their own little something special for patrons,” Fasold said.
“That is something nice for people to look forward to.”
Drink specials and food specials are on tap, Fasold said.
“We talked to everyone and each place will treat customers to something,” Fasold said.
“Whether it be a drink special or food specials it will be great. I know the Elks club will be making homemade stromboli.”
Sunbury Motors Company and Brewer’s Outlet were the main sponsors and Fasold said he was thankful.
“We are thankful to everyone that was involved in making this happen,” he said.
“We are trying to promote responsible drinking.”
Fasold said all rides are free but donations will be accepted with all proceeds to benefit Sunbury Revitalization Inc.
