Suspect charged in 4 more church burglaries

MIDDLEBURG — A Middleburg man accused of breaking into two Beavertown churches, has been charged with burglarizing four other Snyder County churches as well.

Middleburg Police on Monday filed charges against John J. Shaffer, 18, of Middleburg alleging he broke into:

-- Grace Reform Church, Adams Township, taking 72 bags of potato chips, a 12-pack of soda and a box fruit drinks. Value of items stolen: $29.50. Damage to door to get in: $50.

-- St. Paul’s Erdley’s Lutheran Church, Jackson Township, taking $26 worth of snacks and drinks, and causing $100 in damage to get in.

-- Boyer Mennonite Church, Franklin Township, $15 damage, no estimate for items taken.

-- Zion United Methodist Church, $350 damage, no estimate for items taken.

At St. Paul’s Reform Church in Beaverton, Shaffer allegedly took a laptop, valued at $420, and $150 in cash.

Shaffer was arrested last month when he was apprehended by police in Florida just hours after local police issued a warrant for his arrest.
