Toomey shrugs at prospect of Sestak rematch in 2016

HARRISBURG — Unlike Joe Sestak, Republican Sen. Pat Toomey says he’s not thinking about his 2016 re-election campaign just yet.

Sestak, a Democratic former congressman who narrowly lost the 2010 Senate race against Toomey, said Tuesday he has ruled out a bid for the Democratic nomination for governor next year and instead is seriously considering challenging Toomey three years from now. Sestak criticized the Senate for a lack of leadership that he says has the nation “careening from crisis to crisis.”

Toomey’s former campaign manager, Mark Harris, says the senator has not even thought about an election so far away and that he’s focused on serving Pennsylvanians in Washington.

Harris says Toomey has strived to build consensus in the Senate on issues that include job creation, fiscal responsibility and keeping America safe.
