DANVILLE – A woman was run over by her own vehicle in the Geisinger Medical Center parking lot after it started rolling away from her this afternoon.
The woman, whose name is not yet known, was pinned under the car at approximately 12:09 p.m. She was freed by emergency personnel and taken for care at Geisinger at approximately 12:25 p.m.
Chad Thomas, of the Mahoning Township Police, said it is still not clear what caused her car to roll backward. It may have been her emergency brake coming loose, he said. The woman’s car door was open when it started to roll away, and when she ran after it the door knocked her over, Thomas said.
Thomas was told that a group of people in the parking lot came to help the woman after she was found trapped under the vehicle. They told Thomas that her head was trapped under the car, but they managed to move the vehicle to take pressure off her head. The woman was still conscious when she was transported across the parking lot to Geisinger by Danville Ambulance, Thomas said.
East End Fire Department also responded to the scene and assisted in freeing the woman from underneath the vehicle.
Thomas expects more details following a report from Geisinger’s security team, who also responded to the scene.
