BLOOMSBURG — Students at Bloomsburg University may be hitting the bottle more than they’re hitting the books.
According to an article written on the Huffington Post website, Bloomsburg University ranked second in the nation in 2012 for most on-campus alcohol arrests per capita.
The data was based on the number of arrests for every 1,000 students.
Bloomsburg University advanced one spot on the list of 50 schools, having been ranked third for alcohol arrests in 2011.
No. 1 on the list for 2012 was the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse.
Ten Pennsylvania colleges made the list. The others are East Stroudsburg University at No. 3, Shippensburg University at No. 5, Indiana University of Pennsylvania at No. 6, West Chester University at No. 12, Slippery Rock University at No. 16, Lehigh University at No. 19, Pennsylvania State University at No. 21, Pennsylvania College of Technology at No. 25 and Edinboro University at No. 43.
The Huffington Post article included a statement from the website Rehabs.com that suggested that the higher number of arrests at a school does not necessarily mean there is a higher number of arrest-worthy incidents on the campus.
Officials from UW-La Crosse agreed, saying that their campuses have fully-commissioned police departments that issue citations as opposed to warnings given by security departments at other colleges.
