Vandals hit elementary school in Milton

MILTON — Classes will go on as planned today while Milton police continue investigating a break-in at James F. Baugher Elementary School, discovered Sunday morning about 8:30 a.m., the second criminal act on a Milton Area School District building within about three weeks.

Police confirmed the incident Sunday but would not go into details, including where in the building the break-in happened or if anything was damaged or taken.

A teacher had gone to the building at 60 Brenda Rovenolt Circle in Milton on Sunday morning “and noticed a suspected break-in” at the school, Milton Superintendent Cathy Groller said.

“The police, administrators and custodial staff worked diligently together to ensure that school will open as scheduled,” she said.

Police expect to have more information about the crime available today, they said.

Baugher Elementary has been subjected to vandalism before, Groller said. This is the second criminal incident in recent weeks involving a school building in the district.

On Aug. 20, just two days before the new school year began, vandalism was discovered at the White Deer Elementary School.

Two classrooms and a teacher’s lounge at White Deer were damaged, administrators said, but it did not delay the start of school Aug. 22.

The investigation into the White Deer Elementary incident also continues.
