REPORT: Plane inspected just before Snyder County crash

SELINSGROVE — A preliminary report issued by the National Transportation Safety Board said the single-engine airplane that crashed on takeoff at Penn Valley Airport Oct. 4 and injured two people had just undergone an annual inspection.
Pilot Doug Cromley, of Lewisburg, and his passenger, Todd Cromley, of Winfield, suffered serious injuries in the afternoon crash immediately after taking off in the Piper Pacer.
A witness told investigators that the nose of the airplane dropped when it reached about 125 feet and descended vertically in a slight left turn. The aircraft crashed into the runway, causing substantial damage to the wings and fuselage.
Investigators examined the airplane maintenance logbooks and found the accident occurred on the first flight after an annual inspection had been completed.
A final report on the crash isn’t expected for several months.
