— EXCHANGE — Connie Holmes said she didn’t know where her son was.

Then he called. He was involved in a motorcycle accident Monday afternoon and was calling her from the accident scene.

“I just live up the road,” Connie, visibly shaken, said after her son was taken by a Danville ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center.

She said her son, Matthew Holmes, 23, of Hughesville, apparently had been following a car that had stopped but he wasn’t able to stop quickly enough.

The motorcycle went out of control and he rolled into the opposite lane of traffic, witnesses Gary and Cindy Wedde of Elysburg said.

The Weddes were heading toward Turbotville on Route 54, near Route 44, when they saw Holmes fall off the motorcycle.

Gary Wedde immediately dialed 911.

“He was in our lane of the road rolling,” Cindy Wedde said. “It was pretty scary.”

Holmes, who was traveling toward Washingtonville, was following a car which was behind an Amish buggy. “The car slowed for the buggy but he was not able to stop,” Cindy Wedde said. “He didn’t hit the car,” she said.

He was operating a blue Buell motorcycle which appeared to have little damage. A helmet sat on the motorcycle.

Assisting at the 3;44 p.m. accident were Washingtonville and Warrior Run fire companies and Washingtonville fire police.

Tpr. Kimberly Crawford, of the Milton barracks, is investigating.
