Modular home firm bringing 100 jobs to Selinsgrove

SELINSGROVE — Arcon Group Inc., a Hummelstown-based modular home manufacturer, has purchased the former Penn Lyon facility on Airport Road and plans to create more than 100 jobs when it opens in a couple of weeks.

“This is a great acquisition for our company, our employees and our clients,” company president Bud Miller said Thursday.

Arcon plans to produce wood and steel-framed modular products at the site, which includes three buildings and more than 115,000 square-feet of manufacturing space.

The site has been vacant for about a year since Haven Custom Homes closed its doors, 21 months after it began leasing the property following Penn Lyon Homes 2010 closure.

“It’s good to see a business located here,” Snyder County Commissioner Malcolm Derk said. “We have a lot of workers skilled in wood products and the housing industry.”

Arcon was not offered any incentives to locate in the county, he said.

In recent weeks county board Chairman Joe Kantz has approached the Selinsgrove School Board and Monroe Township Board supervisors about the possibility of applying for a Keystone Opportunity Expansion Zone in a bid to offer tax breaks to an unidentified Connecticut gun manufacturer looking to relocate.

Kantz acknowledged it was a long shot and said other companies were considering the site.

In addition to the manufacturing facilities, Arcon Group has purchased the 18,000 square-foot office complex and will be leasing out some of that space.

“It’s a shared office space concept. It’s perfect for an individual business professional or a small company looking for a professional office environment at a reasonable rate,” Miller said.
